MAW Monthly Meeting: November

  • 05 Nov 2019
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Kensington Park Library: 4201 Knowles Ave, Kensington, MD 20895

For November, we're learning about orchids - loveliest myco-amigo the fifth kingdom ever had.

In case you're asking yourself, 'And just what do orchids have to do with fungi?' Well, it's because orchids couldn't survive without fungal partner(s) to get them through the tough times, and this month, we're going to learn all about this myco-obligate relationship from Dennis Whigham, a senor botanist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center.

One doesn't necessarily think of the middle Atlantic as a place to find orchids, but we're home to 50 species, which is about 1/4 of all the orchids in the US and Canada.  So they're out there, and if you come join us on Tuesday, maybe - just maybe - on your next mushroom foray, you'll take some time to stop and admire the flowers.
