The Mycological Association of Washington DC and beyond (MAWDC) is excited to announce a grants and scholarships program to encourage interest in mycology. Four types of awards are currently available: 1) A scholarship to support attendance at our annual foray at Sequanota, PA, 2) Undergraduate/graduate research support 3) Mushroom grow kits and educational support for area K-12 educators and 4) Mushroom cultivation & Education grants.
Application deadline: February 28, 2025
Grants will be made to projects furthering community-based edible or medicinal mushroom cultivation and education, such as installation of mushroom beds in existing community gardens, community-based workshop series to teach home cultivation, etc. Most grants will be given for one-off projects such as a mushroom bed install to be $500 or less. Additionally, the selection committee will consider grant requests of up to $1,500 for more in-depth, multi-site projects with greater reach. Application deadline: August 1st
This scholarship provides up to two scholarships to cover registration and lodging for the annual Sequanota foray. Any student 18 years or older in the DMV is eligible. Winning applicants will be asked to provide a short reflection on the experience to share at a MAWDC monthly meeting or submit as an article to the Sporophore.

Application deadline: October 31st
This award provides up to $1500 towards supplies, equipment and/or travel for undergraduate or graduate research projects focused on mycology. Priority is given to projects with a focus on mid-Atlantic mycology. Recipients are requested to provide a short presentation for the MAWDC monthly meeting and a report to MAWDC.
