Hello Friends of Fungi -

It's time for MAW-DC's annual summer picnic!    We will once again gather at the  Carderock Recreation Area Pavilion, nestled between the C&O Canal and the Potomac River, on this Sunday, June 29th.   The morning will kick off with a foray along the adjacent trails starting at 10:00 am, led by MAW treasurer Matt Cohen. Then we'll re-group at the pavilion from 12:30 on to socialize, feast, check out the fungal finds from the morning walk, and enjoy the summer afternoon.

There's no registration cap for this event, but please RSVP for planning purposes so we don't run out of cold drinks. :  )

This is a potluck-style picnic, so please do bring something to share, mushroom-centric or not as you like. MAW will provide drinks and ice, and will be firing up the BBQ for grilling some mushrooms.  *Note that in accordance with long-standing club policy any foraged fungi served must be checked by a club identifier, but this process is not odious; reach out to me at culinary @mawdc.org if you need help with this.

Kids are very much welcome (and do not need to be registered as your plus-one), as are board games, outdoor games, maybe even squirt guns for a heat-busting battle! 

We have, alas, managed to pick a blazingly hot week, though it looks like the weekend will be a little cooler. Please bring your hat or any persona sun protection, sunscreen, reusable water bottle with plenty of ice, and dress for the weather.

The pavilion is covered; there's electricity; it's handicap accessible; with ample parking directly adjacent. The website has an ominous note about adjacent construction, but our scouts report that all was calm and quiet last weekend.
