This Saturday (Dec 13th at 11am) MAWDC plans to visit a new location for our organization - we're going to Sugarloaf Mountain. I'll be joined by Nature Forward plant expert Bradley Simpson, and lichen expert Natalie Howe as we hike the circuit trail to the summit and back. Of course we'll work on our winter tree ID skills and talk lichens aplenty, and even chat a bit about the cultural history and bedrock geology of this piedmont 'monadnock'.
Please be sure to dress in warm layers, it's going to be a bit chillier at elevation, and it'll take us about two hours to complete our circuit. Also, the trail is uneven and rocky, and there are multiple flights of stairs on the return route to the parking lot, so if you're mobility compromised, it's best you sit out this event.
We'll meet at eleven am at the pavilion in the West View parking lot, and here's a google link to the parking lot to help guide you there. So pull on your sturdy boots and a warm coat, toss a drink and something to eat in your pack, and come join us - we're going mountain climbing.
Warm regards,
Tom McCoy
