  • Description:
    Local natural history clubs serve a critical role as citizen science organizations making multifaceted contributions to science. This talk will provide examples of how natural history clubs and other citizen science endeavors have been integral to our understanding of the distribution and ecology of the fungal genus Neolecta.

  • Bio:  David Hewitt has spent decades studying and working with fungi, plants, animals, soils and water, starting when he began working on small farms in upstate New York and parks and gardens in New York City.  He has served in a variety of roles in different institutions, including the Philadelphia Botanical Club and the Wagner Free Institute of Science (in Philadelphia). His research and outreach work has included mycology & botany; urban parkland ecology & management; and the history of mycology & botany.
