Hello team fungi - I am very excited to announce that this coming Sunday we'll meet at the future site of the Rachel Carson Museum. In case you weren't aware, Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring was the spark for the modern environmental movement, and she was a true force of nature. Rachel is one of my idols, and I did a short presentation about her for MAWDC a few years ago, and now we're going to have the opportunity to visit the future site of her museum, the Spring Song museum.
I'll be joined by foray chair Mitch Fournet and lichenologist Natalie Howe as we take a short stroll along Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River to discuss the fall zone geology, and of course, any fungi/lichens we happen upon.
We'll meet in the Burnt Mills parking lot just below the Trader Joe's on Columbia Pike at 11am. After the foray, I hope many of you join me at Mt. Rainer Nature Center for our in-person monthly meeting as we hear from Rebecca Henson, executive director of the Rachel Carson Museum, for updates.
Also, please be aware that Membership Chair Tom Moore is planning to lead a hike tomorrow at Bacon Ridge that, given the recent rain, will surely have a good showing of fungi. What a fun(gi) filled weekend we're going to have!
